| A Suggestion for An Economic Recovery |
Here's an idea that I have been asking our elected officials about for years.....
During a Senatorial candidate's public forum years ago I was fortunate enough to raise the following question.
Sadly - it was met with blank stares from everyone.
The U.S. Government is the single largest buyer of light and medium duty vehicles in the U.S., with fleet sales and maintenance for inter-office transportation, mail delivery, etc."
The U.S. Government should take the lead on creating jobs with one, very simple statement:
"Starting in 2012, 20% of all light and medium duty vehicles purchased by the Federal government
must run on an alternative energy source (natural gas, electric, hydrogen, etc. - hybrids don't count).
For each two (2) year period thereafter, the percentage of light and medium duty vehicles that will run on an alternative energy source will increase by 20%, so that by 2020 all light and medium duty vehicles purchased by the Federal government will run on an alternative energy source." |
Such a statement would immediately promote private innovation, manufacturing, infrastructure growth, and most importantly - jobs.
